Personal Choices
Personal Choices
But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself.” - Daniel 1:8 NASB
There were many ways Daniel could have reacted after he was chosen to become a leader in Babylon. He could have been passive, simply agreeing with everything his captors requested. As a Jew in exile, he might have felt compelled to live their lifestyle, go along with their customs, and do what was popular or expected. He might have felt intimidated, afraid to stand up for his convictions, or reluctant to speak out for his faith. But Daniel consistently demonstrated his faith in God in every situation. He was not afraid to make a stand and let others know his convictions. He knew he had a choice in every decision, even if this meant challenging orders given by the king’s messengers. Daniel took his responsibility to obey God seriously, even as a young man. How? First, he “made up his mind.” He resolved not to “defile himself.” He didn’t sit by quietly or participate in activities he felt were wrong. He knew what he believed. He spoke up, knowing this involved both risk and courage. But he did so carefully, and won favor and respect. Every day, you are given countless opportunities to make choices about what you do and say, where you go, what you do with your time, talent, and treasure, or what you read and watch. Every time you face a choice, there are vital questions you should ask: Are you honoring God? How would He view your actions and decisions? Are you compromising, or are you standing boldly for God and His Kingdom? Don’t be silent and go along with the world. Stand firmly for the Gospel. Refuse to compromise. Be ready to speak out when God gives you an opportunity. Get involved in your community and nation. Pray. Vote. And be a witness for God and His Kingdom.

Father, help me make the right choices with my life. Give me boldness to speak for You. I take this responsibility seriously. Use me to impact lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
